VIRGINIA – Seven kittens found alone in a backyard have been given a second chance after being rescued by Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions. With no mother in sight, the litter—comprising three Siamese mixes and four tabbies—was brought to safety by volunteers.
After receiving treatment for minor colds and a clean bill of health from a vet, the five-to-six-week-old kittens settled into their foster home, where they quickly adjusted to indoor life.
A Rough Start Turns Comforting
Initially timid, the kittens huddled together in their carrier despite the warm blankets and beds provided. But once they caught the scent of food, their hesitation vanished.
“They were ravenous,” said foster mom Ellen Richter. The kittens devoured nearly ten cans of food on their first night, some even stepping into their dishes as if unsure when their next meal would come. After eating, they retreated to their carrier, still wary of their new surroundings.
A Newfound Energy
By the next morning, the kittens had transformed. Well-rested and well-fed, their coats looked healthier, and their energy levels soared. The braver ones began exploring, while others, like Sweet Tart—the smallest but most curious—observed their siblings before joining in.
“They’re eating on their own and learning to use the litter box,” Ellen said.
Personalities Shine Through
Each kitten quickly developed a distinct personality:
Razzle-Dazzle, a long-haired tabby, emerged as the most adventurous, often keeping watch over her napping siblings.
BonBon, a Siamese mix, delighted in wrestling with blankets until he was completely wrapped up.
Tim Tam, the largest of the litter, contrasted with tiny but spirited Sweet Tart.
Their playful antics extended to new toys, with a butterfly-shaped scratcher becoming an instant favorite. Razzle and Sweet Tart even teamed up to “hunt” it down.
A Bright Future Ahead
Now thriving, the kittens spend their days playing, cuddling in fluffy beds, and following Ellen around like tiny ducklings. Thanks to the efforts of rescuers and foster volunteers, these once-scruffy backyard strays are flourishing—each on their way to finding a forever home.
