When rescuers arrived at an animal shelter to foster a tiny white kitten named Hairy Baby, they couldn’t leave his mother, Baymax, behind—especially after learning she was suffering from a painful dental condition.
The pair had been surrendered when their previous family could no longer care for them. Staff at Newborn Kitten Rescue, an organization specializing in orphaned and critically ill kittens, stepped in, fearing Hairy might lose his mother if her health issues went untreated.
A Mother’s Love Through Recovery
After arriving in foster care, Baymax—a devoted mother despite her discomfort—kept her kitten clean and well-fed. She underwent a full dental extraction, finally freeing her from chronic pain. With a safe space, ample food, and medical care, she flourished, watching as Hairy hit milestones like his first steps and climbing attempts.
Once Hairy was weaned, Baymax embraced her new role as a pampered house cat. Rescuers soon discovered she was completely deaf, explaining her loud, attention-seeking meows. Her striking heterochromatic eyes—one yellow, one blue—only added to her charm.
A Playful Bond Blossoms
As Hairy grew, he befriended Polka Dot, a blind kitten rescued from severe eye infections. Though she lost her vision, her spirited personality never dimmed. The two became inseparable, chasing and wrestling until exhaustion.
“Polka Dot is feisty—Hairy can barely keep up,” the rescue shared with Love Meow. “Being blind doesn’t slow her down. She always finds him, even when he hides.”
Meanwhile, Baymax—now renamed Opal—settled into her forever home as a beloved only cat. “She adores being the center of attention,” her adopters said.
Hairy and Polka Dot were adopted together, their bond ensuring a lifetime of shared adventures. For Baymax/Opal, retirement means leisurely naps and pain-free meals—a happy ending for a once-overlooked family.
