Warren County, VA — A litter of flea-ridden kittens rescued by the Animal Welfare League of Arlington has blossomed into a snuggly, playful group—each with a unique personality—thanks to the dedication of their foster family.
From Rescue to Recovery
The kittens arrived at a Warren County shelter in need of urgent care. Penny Richards, a volunteer foster with the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, took them in and immediately treated them for fleas.
“They needed two flea baths and constant combing for the first week to ensure every flea was safely removed,” Richards told Love Meow.
After their ordeal, the kittens—dubbed with a “cookie and milk” theme—formed an inseparable bond, often curling into a purring pile for naps.
Meet the Litter
The five kittens—Shortbread (a vocal orange tabby), Oatly, Silk, Almond Breeze, and Elmhurst—quickly grew into energetic, affectionate companions.
Shortbread, the most talkative, loves supervising kitchen activities.
Oatly adores cuddles and exploring new toys.
Almond Breeze and Shortbread are the bravest, often venturing downstairs.
Silk showers her siblings with hugs but can be shy around strangers.
Elmhurst, though less adventurous, is playful and endearingly vocal.
A Helping Paw from a Resident Cat
Colman, Richards’ resident cat—once a foster kitten himself—took the newcomers under his wing, even sharing the new cat tree and offering snuggles.
Ready for Forever Homes
After weeks of growth and socialization, the kittens are set to begin their next chapter. On Monday, they’ll head to their forever homes—just in time for the holidays.
