BRONX, NY—A scrawny ginger kitten, once struggling to survive on the streets, has blossomed into a joyful indoor cat in just 72 hours, thanks to the efforts of a local rescue group.
A Desperate Rescue Mission
When Little Wanderers NYC received a call about a litter of kittens in distress outside a Bronx upholstery shop, volunteers rushed to help. Among them was a malnourished ginger tabby, his nose clogged and eyes crusted shut, desperately foraging for scraps.
“The little guy couldn’t even smell the food we set out—he was in rough shape,” Suzy, a rescuer, told Love Meow. Using humane traps, the team successfully captured seven kittens that first night, including the timid ginger, later named Croissant.
A New Lease on Life
The kittens were severely underweight, lethargic, and too weak to eat. “I could feel every tiny vertebra,” Suzy recalled. She syringe-fed them nutrients, and soon, Croissant—now safe and warm—buried his face into a soft bed, savoring his first peaceful sleep.
By the next day, the kittens had regained enough strength to eat on their own. Medical care cleared Croissant’s infections, allowing him to see and breathe freely for the first time. He quickly bonded with his siblings, forming a purring “cuddle puddle” during naps.
From Survival to Sunbathing
Within days, the once-struggling strays transformed. “They went from eating scraps in metal tubes to thriving in foster care,” Suzy said. Croissant, now energetic and curious, races around with toys and shares beds with his favorite sibling, Jean Pierre, a one-eyed kitten who adores grooming him.
After a month in foster care, Croissant and his siblings are ready for adoption. The once-frail tabby now boasts bright amber eyes, a silky coat, and an affectionate personality.
“There’s nothing more rewarding than changing an animal’s life,” Suzy added. “This is his only one—and now, it’s full of love.”
