Brooklyn, NY – When a malnourished six-week-old kitten named Puppet arrived at Greenpoint Cats with his mother, Marionette, and brother, Moppet, rescuers weren’t sure he would survive. Weighing no more than a two-week-old kitten due to stunted growth, Puppet was fragile—but his fighting spirit and operatic meows quickly won over his caregivers.
A Rough Start, A Strong Will
Despite his size, Puppet had an unshakable determination. “He wanted to be big and strong like his brother,” Greenpoint Cats shared. Rushed to an animal hospital for intensive care, he graduated from syringe feedings to eating independently—a small but critical victory. Though his condition had no clear cause, Puppet thrived in an incubator, flanked by snuggle companions and showered with round-the-clock attention.
By his one-month milestone, he hit the one-pound mark. Still petite, he played “with the spirit of a tiger,” melting into cuddles the moment he was held. Meanwhile, his mother and brother, Marionette and Moppet—an inseparable duo—were adopted together, leaving Puppet to continue his recovery in foster care.
A Friendship Forged in Play
As Puppet grew stronger, his playful, mischievous personality emerged. “He needed a friend who could match his energy,” rescuers noted. Enter Pop, a cream-colored kitten with a similar zest for life. The pair bonded instantly, wrestling, pouncing, and commandeering office chairs like longtime littermates.
“They are not brothers, but they adore each other,” Greenpoint Cats said. Their antics became legendary—tumbling until exhaustion, then dozing off in a tangled heap.
Happily Ever After
Now thriving in their forever home, Puppet and Pop remain inseparable. “I teared up seeing this once-tiny runt, all grown up with his best friend,” one rescuer admitted. Though Puppet remains small in stature, his larger-than-life spirit is a testament to resilience—and the power of the right companion.
