When a community cat abandoned her litter before a storm, one tiny gray kitten named Pip was left behind. A Good Samaritan attempted to reunite him with his mother, but she refused to take him back. Fortunately, Pip found his way to Jenny, a foster volunteer with Tails High, who stepped in to give him the care he needed.
At just one week old, Pip was barely opening his eyes but had an insatiable appetite—often finishing his bottle with an adorable milk mustache.
“Pip has a great appetite and takes the bottle well. He loves kneading after meals and purrs more than most kittens his age. He’s just a big ol’ love bug,” Jenny shared.
As he grew stronger, Pip developed a round belly and a surprisingly loud voice, especially at mealtime. Full of energy, he spent his days kneading blankets, purring loudly, and winning over everyone he met. Yet, despite Jenny’s affection, he longed for feline companionship.
“He’s always looking for a mom or another kitten to snuggle with,” Jenny said. “I try my best, but I’m no substitute for a furry friend.”
A Purr-fect Match
At three weeks old, Pip hit a milestone—joining the “one-pound club”—and promptly claimed a dog bed as his throne. Around the same time, Jenny learned of another abandoned kitten, Layla, found by a family who reached out for help.
The rescue network quickly brought Layla into foster care, and the two kittens became instant friends. Though Pip was younger, he was the bigger of the two, while Layla—fluffier and more adventurous—quickly became the bold leader of the pair.
“She’s the brave one, always exploring,” Jenny said. “Pip watches and follows her lead.”
Double the Trouble, Double the Cuteness
The duo soon became inseparable, getting into mischief and choosing unconventional napping spots—like a file holder by the printer—over the plush beds Jenny provided.
“I give them plenty of cozy spots, and this is what they pick,” Jenny laughed.
They also befriended the resident cats and another foster kitten, Cheesy, forming a snuggle squad on the couch. “Pip and Layla have been great for Cheesy—they welcomed her right in,” Jenny said.
Now thriving in foster care, the two kittens fill the house with playful antics and Pip’s signature raspy meows. Thanks to a network of rescuers, fosters, and kind strangers, these once-lonely kittens have found love, companionship, and a bright future ahead.
