Brisbane, Australia—A hungry stray cat’s search for food led her to the doorstep of a compassionate family—and just in time. The cream tabby, later named Oriana, had been surviving on the streets, often hiding in drains to escape neighborhood children. But her luck changed when she discovered a home willing to offer her not just meals, but safety and care.
From Stray to Safe
Initially skittish, Oriana began returning regularly for food, eventually trusting the family enough to stay overnight. Concerned by her insatiable appetite and visibly round belly, they took her to a veterinarian, where they made a heartwarming discovery: Oriana was pregnant.
“She’d been scavenging for extra meals to nourish her unborn kittens,” said a representative from Best Friends Felines, a local rescue organization. With no microchip and no owner coming forward, the family reached out to the group, which quickly arranged foster care for the expectant mother.
A Mother’s Trust
Oriana settled into her foster home with remarkable ease, displaying affectionate behavior—rubbing against her caregivers’ legs, purring loudly, and even “splooting” (stretching out flat) in contentment. “She’s incredibly sweet and cuddly, adjusting almost immediately,” her foster carer noted.
As her due date approached, Oriana rearranged her blankets frequently, signaling that labor was near. Unlike most cats, who prefer solitude during birth, Oriana delivered her five kittens in the middle of the room, staying close to her caregivers. “She clearly felt safe with them,” the rescue shared.
Five Perfect Copies
By nightfall, Oriana had moved her newborns into a cozy nest. To everyone’s delight, all five kittens were dilute calicos—mirroring their mother’s gray, white, and cream coloring. “It’s like she hit copy-paste,” the team joked.
Now under vigilant care, the kittens are thriving, with Oriana proving to be a devoted yet relaxed mother. “She nurses them diligently, then happily takes breaks for cuddles and chin scratches,” her foster family said.
A Bright Future Ahead
No longer fighting for survival on the streets, Oriana and her kittens will be spayed, vaccinated, and adopted into loving homes. “This is the happy ending every stray deserves,” the rescue added.
