A heavily pregnant calico cat, found wandering the streets by a Good Samaritan, was brought to a local clinic just days before delivering her litter in the comfort of a foster home.
The clinic contacted Best Friends Felines, a rescue group, which matched the expectant mother with a new foster volunteer. Named Mikaela after her rescuer, the friendly cat settled in quickly—and within two days, she surprised her caregivers by giving birth to four healthy kittens.
A Grateful New Mom
After struggling to find shelter outdoors, Mikaela seemed relieved to finally be safe indoors. She delivered four plump, thriving kittens and immediately embraced motherhood.
“Mikaela is an excellent mother, and the babies are nursing and growing well,” Best Friends Felines shared. Though devoted to her newborns, she remained affectionate with her foster family, greeting them with purrs and head bumps.
Kittens Grow Bold and Playful
As the kittens—Angus, Oscar, Pikachu, and Peanut—opened their eyes and gained strength, their adventurous sides emerged. They began exploring their nest, with the ginger kittens often instigating playful tussles.
“Mikaela keeps a close eye on them as they wander,” the rescue noted. “She has the patience of a saint, tolerating their antics while still providing plenty of baths and cuddles.”
By five weeks old, the litter mastered eating solid food, using the litter box, and even climbing—often scaling their patient mother like a jungle gym.
A Bright Future Ahead
Now more independent, the kittens spend their days wrestling, napping in piles, and following their foster carer around. Meanwhile, Mikaela—finally free to relax—enjoys extra snuggles with her humans.
Once the kittens are weaned, Mikaela will be ready for her forever home, leaving motherhood behind for a life of comfort and love. Thanks to the quick actions of her rescuer and the dedication of her foster team, this once-vulnerable family now has a second chance at happiness.
