A 15-year-old tuxedo cat named Arthur has taken the internet by storm after a video captured him protesting a plumber’s presence near his cupboard. The footage, posted to TikTok on May 28, shows Arthur meowing repeatedly at the worker. To the amusement of viewers, the plumber responds in the same language—with a meow of his own.
Arthur, known as @mrmeowsalot on TikTok, is no stranger to dramatic vocal displays. “He loves a good moan,” said his owner in the comments. The video, captioned “Telling the plumber to get out of his cupboard,” quickly went viral, drawing 2.7 million views, over 610,900 likes, and 1,200 comments. One top comment with nearly 148,000 likes read: “I LOVE that he was responding to the cat.” Another joked, “Nice to see a plumber who can speak fluent cat.”
According to the ASPCA, cats meow for many reasons: to greet people, ask for attention, request food, or express confusion, especially as they age. Meowing can also signal a desire to go outside or be linked to mating behavior. While some cats are naturally more vocal, persistent meowing can be a sign of illness, such as an overactive thyroid or kidney disease. The ASPCA recommends a vet visit if a cat’s vocal habits change, especially in senior cats like Arthur.
