Volunteers assisting a community cat colony were surprised to discover not one, but two kittens in need—rescued just a day apart.
A Fleeting Orange Kitten
While tending to feral cats in the neighborhood, volunteers spotted a small, skittish ginger kitten hiding among the adults. Though he initially bolted from human contact, hunger ultimately led to his capture. Two rescuers worked together to safely retrieve him from a deck, securing him a warm foster home through Tails High animal rescue.
Foster volunteer AP Miller took in the frail kitten, who weighed just 1 pound, 2 ounces—earning him the name Jack Skellington (after the bony Nightmare Before Christmas character). After a much-needed flea bath, the timid kitten slowly adjusted to indoor life.
A Second Surprise
Just as rescuers believed their work was done, another kitten—a dilute tortoiseshell—appeared in the exact same location the following day. The tiny female, later named Sally, darted from the yard toward the road before being safely caught.
“We’re confident they’re from the same litter,” Miller told Love Meow, noting the pair were nearly identical in size, with only a 0.2-ounce weight difference.
Reunited and Thriving
After flea baths and full bellies, the siblings were reintroduced—and Jack was ecstatic. He shadowed Sally relentlessly, coaxing her to play. Within days, they were wrestling, napping together, and basking in sunny windowsills.
Though initially wary of humans, their personalities blossomed:
Jack: A playful, toy-obsessed instigator (though wary of vacuums).
Sally: A snuggly purr-machine who surprised everyone by fearing the vacuum less than her brother.
Now thriving indoors, the duo fills their days with zoomies, feather wand battles, and shared naps—forever leaving their harsh past behind.
“They know I’m the food lady and the cuddle lady,” Miller laughed. “Their appetites exploded once they felt safe.”
Thanks to quick-acting rescuers, Jack and Sally will never face the streets again—just a future of warmth, play, and each other.
