Wake County, NC – A family of six cats—a mother, her adult daughter, and four kittens—were rescued earlier this week after observant passersby discovered them abandoned in a bin at a local park.
A Lifesaving Discovery
The SPCA of Wake County reported that the Good Samaritans noticed the bin in a parking lot and, acting on instinct, decided to investigate. Inside, they found the feline family huddled together under blankets for warmth.
“It was their gut feeling that saved these cats,” the SPCA stated. The rescuers immediately brought the animals to the shelter, where staff ensured they received proper care.
A Close-Knit Family
Upon arrival, the mother cat remained protective of her kittens while her older daughter provided constant affection. “The mom’s older daughter has been her emotional support,” said Samantha Ranlet, Communications Manager at the SPCA. “She grooms and cuddles her mom while she tends to the kittens.”
The SPCA placed the cats in a quiet foster home to help them adjust. “They were left in a public place, likely by someone who didn’t know where else to turn,” the shelter noted. “While we encourage people to reach out to resources like our Pet Helpline, we’re grateful they were found in time.”
On the Road to Recovery
The kittens, described as healthy and lively, will soon begin weaning, allowing their mother more rest. Meanwhile, the older daughter continues to stay close, often snuggling with her mother and siblings.
All six cats are expected to be available for adoption in the coming weeks. “They’re purring, warm, and thriving—ready for loving homes,” the SPCA shared.
Thanks to the quick actions of compassionate strangers, this feline family now has a second chance at a safe and happy future.
