Cats are often seen as independent and easy pets—but one owner in the U.K. has discovered his tuxedo cat is anything but low-maintenance.
In a viral TikTok posted Thursday by user @supurmario, 34-year-old David shares a chaotic highlight reel of his 1-year-old cat, Mario. The clip, which has gained over 164,000 views and 13,000 likes, shows Mario knocking things over, tearing objects apart, and causing general mayhem around the house.
“Cats are low-maintenance, they said… My cat,” David wrote in the video, which quickly struck a chord with viewers. “It’s been one year since we adopted Mario. He’s really settled in… a little too well. Here’s 20 seconds of his most chaotic moments so far.”
Mario was adopted as a 4-week-old kitten. From the start, David says the cat stole both his heart and his peace of mind. “Despite my best efforts, I’ve somehow adopted a cat with unlimited energy, zero regard for personal space, and a Ph.D. in knocking things off surfaces,” he told Newsweek.
David works from home, which means he and Mario spend nearly every day together. “More accurately, he supervises me while plotting his next act of chaos,” he joked.
What began as casual recordings of Mario’s behavior has now turned into a viral journey. “People really connect with his relatable brand of mayhem,” David said. “But Mario remains totally unfazed by his internet fame. As long as the treats keep coming, he’s happy.”
Though cats are often labeled as self-sufficient, experts say they still need the right environment to stay happy and healthy. According to PetMD, cats benefit from regular, friendly interactions with people. They also need opportunities for play, safe hiding spots, and space that supports their strong sense of smell and natural hunting instincts.
In the comments, many viewers related to David’s experience. One user joked, “Seems pretty low-maintenance to me—he entertains himself with no input from you!” Another added, “My tuxedo cat does this too. This morning, he was staring at me from atop the bathroom door.”
