When Ryanne and Jake Palermo adopted 12-week-old grey kitten Ahsoka and her sibling, they never expected her to find her closest companion in an unlikely source—Echo, the family’s resident bunny.
Love at First Sight
Just days after arriving at her new home, Ahsoka met the rest of the Palermo’s furry family. While the household has multiple cats, it was Echo, the only rabbit, who immediately captured the kitten’s attention.
“It was love at first sight for little Ahsoka,” Ryanne told Love Meow. “She gravitated toward Echo, who exuded confidence. He watched her until he finally invited her to play.” Surprisingly, Echo—who typically keeps his distance from the other cats—chose Ahsoka as his sole feline friend.
An Unlikely Guardian
At the time, Echo was the larger of the two and quickly took the tiny kitten under his wing. “He’s the boss of the house,” Ryanne said. “I think he felt protective of her. She’s the only cat he likes, and he’s adored her from the start.”
Echo allowed Ahsoka to sleep in his cage, and the pair often snuggled together in his bed. Their bond deepened after Ahsoka tragically lost her sibling to health issues, leaving Echo as her primary source of comfort.
A Friendship That Defies Differences
Now fully grown, Ahsoka towers over Echo—but their dynamic remains unchanged. “I sometimes get the vibe that Echo is like a father figure to her,” Ryanne shared.
The two are inseparable: Ahsoka follows Echo around the house, wraps her paws around him during naps, and even gently nibbles his ears—a habit Echo doesn’t seem to mind. She occasionally sneaks bites from his salad bowl, which he generously tolerates.
A Heartwarming Reunion
Their devotion was put to the test earlier this week when Echo had to stay overnight at the vet. Ahsoka waited anxiously, sleeping in his cage the entire time. “She was clearly missing him,” Ryanne said. “Now that he’s back, she won’t leave his side.”
Whether curled up together or sharing a snack, Ahsoka and Echo prove that friendship knows no bounds—even between a cat and a bunny.
