A series of suspicious cat deaths have led to a police investigation in Gwangyang, South Jeolla. Three dead cats were discovered on the tidal flats near Myungdang Park in Taein-dong between Sunday and Tuesday, according to animal rights group Korea Animal Rights Advocates (KARA) and the Gwangyang Police Precinct.
One of the cats was found trapped in a cage with canned food, while the other two were either soaked or severely decomposed. KARA suspects that the cats were intentionally abused.
“Someone seems to have used food to lure a hungry cat into a trap, then left it on the tidal flat to drown during high tide,” said KARA. “The conditions in which the cats were found suggest this was deliberate abuse, and we have reported it to the police.”
The Gwangyang Police are now investigating the case as potential animal abuse.
