Bethany Cosentino, frontwoman of indie rock band Best Coast, has announced the death of her beloved cat, Snacks. Known to fans as more than just a pet, Snacks was a symbol of the band’s identity and a fixture in its artwork and imagery.
Snacks appeared on the cover of Best Coast’s 2010 debut album Crazy For You and Wavves’ King of the Beach the same year. Most recently, he featured on the artwork for Best Coast’s single “Leading,” released just months ago.
“I always knew this day would come, but I hoped it never would,” Cosentino wrote on Instagram. “I said goodbye to my angel baby Snacks this afternoon.”
In her tribute, Cosentino described Snacks as more than a personal companion. “He was not just my cat. He belonged to all of you. He was the third member of this band. Our mascot. Our cover star. Our merch king,” she wrote.
She reflected on the strong emotional bond they shared and the impact Snacks had on fans around the world. “He meant everything to me and I’m going to miss him so much, but I know he will live on forever by way of the legacy he created simply by being himself,” Cosentino added. “Snacks. Long live the king.”
