A Reddit user is sparking debate after sharing that she immediately ejected a friend from her apartment for aggressively pushing her cat off the couch.
In a post on the platform, the anonymous woman described her feline companion as her “baby,” emphasizing that while the cat is friendly, she is easily startled. “I always remind guests to be gentle with her,” she wrote.
The incident occurred when her friend, during a visit, suddenly shoved the cat off the couch with enough force to send the animal tumbling to the floor. “Not a little nudge—an actual shove that made her hit the floor hard,” the woman recounted. The terrified cat fled and hid under the bed.
When confronted, the friend allegedly laughed and dismissed the concern, saying, “Relax, it’s just a cat.” The host, furious, demanded the friend leave immediately. “They acted like I was overreacting, but my cat was terrified,” she wrote. “That kind of reaction to an innocent animal is not okay with me.”
After the altercation, the friend reportedly told mutual acquaintances she was kicked out over “nothing.” While most of their social circle sided with the cat owner—some even admitting they’d never liked how the friend treated animals—a few argued the reaction was too harsh and that a warning would have sufficed.
Reddit Users Weigh In
The post drew strong reactions from commenters, with the vast majority supporting the woman’s decision.
“If that’s how they treat your cat when you’re right there, what would they be like when you’re not around?” one user questioned.
Another added: “Any person who would abuse or exploit any living creature can NEVER be trusted.”
A third declared: “I wouldn’t just kick them out—I’d end the friendship. You didn’t overreact.”
The original poster confirmed her cat was unharmed but still shaken. The incident has reignited discussions about how respect for pets reflects broader character—and where boundaries should be drawn.
