CHESTER — A beloved cat known to many in the Kingsway area is recovering after a suspected human attack, thanks to the support of local residents who raised over £7,000 through a GoFundMe campaign.
Bobby, a friendly and familiar feline near Limewood Park, suffered serious injuries believed to be caused by humans. He was found with puncture wounds around his neck and head, possible jaw damage, and chemical burns — with bleach suspected to be the substance used. His condition was critical when he was rushed to an emergency vet.
Phoebe Hale, who organized the fundraiser, shared updates on Bobby’s progress and confirmed that the donations have now been closed. She said Bobby has shown signs of improvement ahead of a scheduled hernia operation at Animal Trust.
“Bobby looks like he’s turned a corner today,” she wrote. “His spirit is back. He’s got a trek to go, but you can see he wants to live and is fighting.”
Hale added that while Bobby remains quiet due to pain and ulcers in his mouth, he is eating again and is due to be checked at the vet before surgery.
“The anaesthetic is our biggest concern right now,” she said. “He’s still not himself, but he may get to spend a day at home before the operation.”
In her original GoFundMe appeal, Hale described Bobby as a “trusting boy” who is well known and loved in the community. She explained that he was not insured and needed urgent help to cover veterinary costs.
“Thank you all again. He wouldn’t be here without you,” she said, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support.
So far, no suspects have been identified, and police have said they are unable to take further action at this time.
