LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. — A cat named BooBoo is recovering after being abandoned in a dumpster in what authorities call a “heinous” act of animal cruelty. The suspect, identified as the owner’s roommate, has been arrested.
Shocking Surveillance Footage
Surveillance video captured a man pulling up to a dumpster near the 25000 block of Cabot Road in Laguna Hills and dumping the injured feline from a plastic bag onto a pile of trash. The footage, shared by the City of Mission Viejo, shows the cat limping before the suspect drives away.
Rescue and Recovery
The cat, later named Willow by Mission Viejo Animal Services (MVAS), was discovered 15 hours later—just minutes before trash collection—behind a shopping center near Cabot and La Paz Road. Suffering from trauma and injuries, she was rushed to a veterinary hospital for treatment.
Despite her ordeal, the cat has shown resilience, purring and seeking affection from caregivers.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
MVAS and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department arrested a suspect after the cat’s owner came forward, identifying him as her roommate. Authorities confirmed there is probable cause to press charges.
Cat to Be Returned to Owner
MVAS revealed the cat’s real name is BooBoo and that she is improving under veterinary care. Once fully healed, she will be reunited with her owner, who officials say was also a victim in this case.
“We are grateful to the person who found BooBoo and saved her life,” MVAS stated, urging anyone with information on animal cruelty to come forward.
