Macomb County, MI — A compassionate act by a local public works employee saved a stranded cat from freezing temperatures earlier this week. Jenay Chartier, an employee of Macomb County Public Works, discovered the shivering feline in a cul-de-sac north of Detroit, its back paws, one front paw, and tail frozen solid in the snow.
Using towels and warm water, Chartier carefully freed the cat—later named Freezy—and brought it to her workplace for the remainder of her shift. A coworker helped check Freezy for fleas and mites before Chartier took the animal to a veterinarian, where it was estimated to be between one and two years old.
The cat’s rescue gained attention after Chartier shared the story on Facebook, even drawing a response from Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller. Miller used the incident to remind pet owners to keep animals indoors during extreme cold.
Chartier, who is now considering adopting Freezy, expressed hope for the cat’s future. “Maybe it’s just meant to be,” she said. “I just want her to have a great life.”
The story highlights both the dangers winter weather poses to pets and the impact of community kindness. Authorities urge residents to report stray or distressed animals to local shelters or animal control.
