ORANGE COUNTY, FL – Jan. 23, 2025 — Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) will host two free events in February to provide dog and cat owners with essential veterinary care. Pet owners can receive vaccinations and microchip identification for their animals at no cost. Services will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Many residents have told us that veterinary expenses are a big concern,” said Diane Summers, Manager of Orange County Animal Services. “These events help make basic care more accessible and ensure more pets in our community are vaccinated and identified.”
The first event, for dog owners, will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The second, for cat owners, is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, during the same hours. Both events will take place at the OCAS shelter carport in a convenient drive-thru format.
Dogs will receive the following at no charge
- Microchip identification, including free national registration
- Rabies vaccine, required by Florida law
- DAPP vaccine (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus)
- Bordetella vaccine
Cats will receive:
- Microchip identification, including free national registration
- Rabies vaccine, required by Florida law
- FVRCP vaccine (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia)
“We’re seeing more cases of Parvovirus in dogs, especially puppies, coming into the shelter,” Summers added. “This virus is dangerous and spreads easily. These free services are one way we can protect pets across the county.”
Microchipping greatly increases the chances of lost pets being reunited with their families. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, 52% of dogs with microchips are returned home, compared to only 22% of those without.
OCAS is located at 2769 Conroy Road, next to the Mall at Millenia. More details about available services, adoptable pets, and upcoming events can be found on the shelter’s website.
