Queer Eye star and podcast host Jonathan Van Ness has a pointed question for those hesitant to adopt a pet: “Are you a monster?”
A devoted pet parent himself, Van Ness owns three rescue cats—Larry, Bug the 2nd, and Liza—each with distinct personalities that bring him endless joy. He adopted Larry after worrying his late cat, Bug the 1st, was experiencing a “midlife crisis.”
“He just became such a source of love and joy in my life,” Van Ness told PEOPLE. Now, with his two newest additions, he’s encouraging others to open their homes to animals in need.
Finding the Perfect Feline Match
Van Ness believes every potential pet owner can find their ideal companion among the countless animals awaiting adoption.
“There are so many incredible baby animals, puppies, and kittens that want to join your family. They have so much love to give and just need love in return,” he said.
A Unique Adoption Experience in LA
For Los Angeles residents considering cat adoption, Van Ness recommends visiting the Cats on Glass Gallery, a pop-up exhibit by Fresh Step running until January 27 at 1147 S. Hope Street.
The interactive gallery features adoptable cats climbing through glass and plastic sculptures, allowing visitors to observe their personalities from every angle.
“Be prepared to take your next profile picture,” said Van Ness, who boasts 2.8 million Instagram followers. “It’s a super cool, interactive, playful exhibit for cat lovers.”
Highlights include:
The Pom Pom Room – A playful space for feline fun.
The Meow-maste Room – A meditation zone featuring purring soundscapes.
The Glass Playhouse – A transparent habitat showcasing adoptable cats.
Adoption Fees Covered
To remove financial barriers, Fresh Step will cover all adoption fees for cats taken home from the exhibit.
“Usually activations like this cost more than brunch, but Cats on Glass is free,” Van Ness noted. “Space is limited, so RSVP at CatsOnGlassGallery.com. You won’t want to miss it.”
For animal lovers, this could be the purr-fect opportunity to find a new furry family member.
