Mehdi G of Washington was out walking when he found a severely matted cat. He knew he had to help her, but what the microchip revealed the next day surprised him.
In a Reddit post on the r/cats forum, Mehdi G shared how he took the dirty and tangled cat home. The cat’s fur was clumped and painful, which can cause bruising and skin irritation. It also traps dirt and bacteria, making the cat’s condition worse.
Mehdi G carefully cut away as much matted fur as he could, then bathed her and gave her food and water. The cat ate and then rested comfortably while he waited for more information.
To his surprise, the cat’s microchip showed she was registered in 2010. This means she is at least 15 years old. Mehdi G contacted the cat’s previous owner, who had moved away ten years earlier and had given the cat to someone else to care for. The owner was upset to hear about the cat’s poor condition but gave Mehdi G permission to keep her.
He named the cat Lil Bit. After receiving treatments and vaccinations at the vet, Lil Bit went home to a warm and cozy space. Since then, Mehdi G said she has been doing very well. She is sweet and cuddly and loves to sleep either on a pile of blankets or in his lap.
Mehdi G also introduced Lil Bit to his other senior cat, and they have become friends. He even got Lil Bit a collar with her name on it.
The Reddit post quickly gained attention, earning over 4,900 upvotes and 271 comments. Many praised Mehdi G for his kindness.
One commenter wrote, “You didn’t find that cat on your walk. That cat found you.” Another said, “You are an angel, take good care of her.” A third added, “Faith in humanity restored for today!”
