At around on May , 2025, outside a hot – pot restaurant in Jiulongpo District of Chongqing, a cat fell from an upper floor into an open – air hot – pot, and the hot soup splashed and injured 9 people. After the incident, the restaurant owner immediately took the customers to the hospital for examination and bore the relevant costs.
The cat was also sent for treatment. The pet hospital said that it would treat the injured cat for free, and the restaurant owner said that if no one claimed the cat, they would keep it in the restaurant and let it “work” to compensate for the losses.
Later, the restaurant installed a protective canopy over the outdoor dining area to prevent similar incidents from happening again. The story went viral on Chinese social media, and many netizens praised the restaurant owner for his compassionate response. However, unfortunately, the cat’s condition suddenly deteriorated, and despite two hours of emergency care, it passed away.
