A one-year-old cat named Lamby is winning hearts online for her unique obsession with plush lamb toys, as she patiently waits for a forever home at a shelter in Austin, Texas.
Nicknamed “Lambinator” by shelter staff, the black-and-white tuxedo cat has become a favorite at Austin Pets Alive! (APA!)’s Cesar Chavez location. A recent Instagram post showing Lamby lounging among her collection of stuffed lambs has gone viral, drawing attention to her story.
Lamby arrived at APA! in August 2023 from a local rescue partner. She has a tail-pull injury that causes her to walk with an unusual gait and leaves her incontinent. Despite this, shelter staff say she is one of the most joyful and loving cats they’ve cared for.
“She has a happy and enthusiastic energy that is contagious,” APA! told Newsweek. “Lamby is like a one-cat welcome committee, always the first to greet visitors at the door.”
The young cat is full of life. She enjoys climbing, running, splashing in water, and curling up in laps. She even enjoys perching on shoulders and gets along well with both adults and children. She’s also friendly with other cats and even large dogs.
“She purrs up a storm each time she’s picked up,” the shelter shared.
Due to her injury, Lamby needs special care. Her future adopter will need to learn how to help her with bladder expression and be ready for a bit of extra work. But the shelter says the reward is more than worth it.
“It is kind of heartbreaking to think she could be passed over because of her needs,” APA! said. “She has so much love to give, a sunny disposition, and just needs someone willing to share it with her.”
APA! hopes Lamby will find a home with patient people who can help her transition comfortably. They believe she would do well in almost any home—with kids, cats, or dogs—so long as she receives the care she needs.
Since the shelter posted about her, Lamby’s story has attracted thousands of likes and comments. “Awhh if I lived closer I would bring her home immediately,” one Instagram user wrote. Another said: “My cat is obsessed with Lammies too! Hope Lamby finds a home soon!”
Lamby may need special care, but her love and lamb-filled charm make her one unforgettable cat—now all she needs is someone to take her home.
