A tabby cat named Lizzie has captured the internet’s heart after her owner shared a video of her unconventional hiding spot—with only her face concealed under a curtain while the rest of her body remains in plain sight.
The TikTok clip, posted by @speeeegle, has amassed 1.5 million likes and 7.1 million views, charming viewers with Lizzie’s quirky behavior. “I have no idea why, but this is her new favorite spot,” her owner narrates as the camera zooms in on the feline’s half-hidden form.
While Lizzie’s attempt at concealment may not be fooling anyone, her owner takes it in stride, adding, “I don’t get it, but I’m happy for her”—a sentiment many pet parents can relate to.
Why Do Cats Hide Like This?
Jenna Stregowski, RVT and Daily Paws’ pet health and behavior editor, explains that hiding—even partially—is an instinctive behavior for cats. “Hiding, whether all or part of their body, is a way for a cat to feel safe and secure while at rest,” she says. “Plus, it can block out excess light if they’re trying to sleep. In some cases, hiding the head is the cat’s way of telling others that they need space.”
Stregowski notes that observing a cat’s body language can provide clues about their mood and intentions.
In a follow-up video titled “Lizzie reveal,” fans finally get a full glimpse of the elusive feline, complete with a dramatic countdown before her big “unveiling.”
For now, Lizzie’s curtain-covered antics continue to delight social media—proof that cats don’t need to be stealthy to steal the spotlight.
