Montreal, QC – After years of surviving outdoors, a gentle stray cat named Ewok has finally found safety, medical care, and the warmth of a loving home.
From Hardship to Hope
Last winter, a thick-coated tom cat was spotted wandering a Montreal neighborhood. A resident recognized him from earlier sightings—scavenging for food during the summer. Despite his nervous demeanor, Ewok showed no aggression, allowing his rescuer to bring him indoors.
His fur was severely matted, with a painful, crusted patch on his back pulling at his skin. Recognizing his need for urgent care, the finder contacted Chatons Orphelins Montréal, a local animal rescue, which took him in immediately.
Medical Recovery and a New Beginning
Upon arrival, Ewok was rushed to a veterinary clinic. Staff carefully groomed his tangled coat, soothing him with gentle reassurance. Though fearful, the three-year-old cat remained cooperative during exams.
Veterinarians discovered signs of a difficult past: hardened paw pads from trekking through snow and an old, improperly healed rib injury—likely from an accident while living outdoors. Fortunately, the injury caused no pain.
Placed in a foster home, Ewok gradually revealed his sweet, affectionate nature. “At first, he was anxious and withdrawn,” the rescue shared. “But once he began socializing, his true personality emerged—all he wanted was love.”
Overcoming Health Challenges
Ewok faced another hurdle: chronic watery eyes caused by entropion, a condition where eyelids curl inward, irritating the cornea. He underwent corrective surgery and wore a cone for two weeks, enduring the recovery with remarkable patience.
“Despite everything, he stayed sweet—even when spoon-fed in his cone,” his caregivers noted. “After such a hard life, he deserved the best care.”
A Gentle Soul Blossoms
Now thriving in foster care, Ewok enjoys sunbathing in his window hammock and greeting his foster mom with eager cuddles. Though initially reserved, he melts at the slightest chin scratch, responding with rumbling purrs and “making biscuits” with his fluffy paws.
While he gets along with other cats, Ewok prefers human company. Evenings bring out his playful side—quietly chasing toys when the house is calm. Though still wary of sudden movements, he transforms into a devoted snuggle bug once he feels safe.
A Bright Future Ahead
No longer the lonely stray braving Montreal’s winters, Ewok now enjoys a life of comfort, free from pain and fear. His rescuers hope his story inspires others to help animals in need.
“After years on the streets, he’s finally home,” the rescue shared. “And he’s never looking back.”
