GREENPOINT, NY — What began as a routine morning of Tai Chi in a local park turned into a life-changing rescue for a senior tabby cat, now named Tai Chi, thanks to the quick actions of a compassionate passerby and a dedicated animal rescue group.
A Surprising Discovery
The rescuer, who frequents the park for his daily exercise, spotted an unusual sight—a pink cat carrier abandoned under a tree. Perched high above on a branch was a tabby cat, seemingly stranded after escaping the carrier.
“I saw the carrier on the ground, and then I noticed her up in the tree,” the man recounted in a video shared with Greenpoint Cats, a volunteer-run rescue organization. Realizing the cat was friendly but too scared to climb down, he improvised by using a nearby picnic table to reach her.
Despite his efforts, the feline refused to return to the carrier. “She let me pet her, but I had no idea how to get a cat out of a tree,” he admitted.
A Community Steps In
After unsuccessful attempts to contact local authorities, the man reached out to Greenpoint Cats, whose volunteers swiftly arrived to assist. They safely retrieved the cat, later naming her Tai Chi in honor of her rescuer’s morning ritual.
A veterinary exam revealed Tai Chi was a senior cat in need of urgent medical care, including dental treatment. With the rescue’s support, she received the necessary procedures and was placed in a foster home, where she quickly adjusted.
From Abandoned to Adored
Tai Chi’s transformation has been remarkable. Described as the “ultimate lap cat,” she thrives on affection, greeting her foster family with trills and gentle taps for attention.
“She hasn’t let her past dim her loving spirit,” Greenpoint Cats shared. “She’s a retired huntress—more interested in naps than pouncing—and demands cuddles like a true diva.”
Now healthy and happy, Tai Chi spends her days loafing on laps and rolling over for belly rubs. Her rescuers hope she’ll soon find a forever home where she can continue her reign as a professional snuggler.
