A 4-month-old kitten named Miso has captured hearts online after a video showed her gently stopping her 9-month-old human sister from climbing the stairs.
The viral clip, shared on Instagram in April by mom Steph Evans (@stephrevans), shows Miso using her paw to hold baby Lola back from ascending the steps. Evans, 27, from Utah County, joked in the caption, “When you thought $1,200 was a lot for a cat until you realize she’s also a nanny.” She added, “The nanny position has been filled.”
In an interview with Newsweek, Evans said baby Lola lights up around Miso. “Ever since we brought Miso home, Lola has been laughing and smiling more. Just seeing Miso nearby boosts her mood like crazy.”
Lola first met Miso at the breeder’s home. Unlike the other kittens, who ran away from the baby, Miso stayed close. That bond only grew stronger once Miso joined the family.
Evans’ older daughter, Renee, age 4, has also become fast friends with the kitten. In another video shared that same month, Renee and Miso are seen reading, playing, and cuddling—clearly inseparable.
Experts agree that cats can make great companions for children. The Animal Humane Society says that caring for a pet teaches responsibility. Since cats are often more independent, they also help children develop patience.
Cats don’t just support emotional growth—they may benefit physical health too. Studies show that growing up around pets can help strengthen a child’s immune system.
Pet MD lists the best cat breeds for families with children. These include the Ragdoll, Maine Coon, American Shorthair, Siamese, Siberian, and others. Miso, a Siberian, fits the list perfectly.
Miso’s moment as a feline babysitter quickly went viral. The video has racked up more than 2.7 million views and over 200,000 likes on Instagram.
Social media users were both surprised and delighted. “Holy cow I didn’t know cats can be that expensive?!” one user, Alyson.palmer, commented. “But she’s like the most unique beautiful cat.” Another user, Pampersus, added: “A pawfect assistant.”
With her gentle touch and protective instincts, Miso may just be the internet’s newest favorite nanny.
