Anchorage, AK — A paralyzed kitten named Bridger has defied the odds, capturing hearts with his unbreakable spirit and an unlikely bond with a nurturing husky named Cinder.
A Rough Start
Earlier this year, the tabby kitten was discovered outside an Anchorage store, shivering and unable to use his hind legs. Rescuers rushed him to Anchorage Animal Care and Control, where veterinarians determined he had no spinal damage.
“His resilience was clear from the start,” said Shannon Basner, founder of Mojo’s Hope, a local rescue for special-needs animals. “Despite his paralysis, he craved affection and purred constantly.”
Road to Recovery
Bridger received laser therapy and nutritional support at VCA Alaska Pet Care, where vet techs Emma and Toni kept him cozy with warming blankets. Though his hind-leg mobility remains limited, his strength has improved with consistent care.
“He may always need assistance, but that doesn’t slow him down,” Basner told Love Meow. “He scoots around, plays endlessly, and adores his foster siblings.”
An Instant Bond
At Mojo’s Hope, Bridger quickly befriended other special-needs cats, including HarPURR, a paralyzed feline who “showed him the ropes.” But his biggest admirer was Cinder, a husky with a maternal instinct.
The kitten was smitten at first sight, nuzzling against the patient dog. “Cinder soaks up his love—it melts our hearts,” Basner said. The pair now share frequent snuggles, with Bridger often curling up against her for naps.
A Hopeful Future
Bridger’s playful energy and affectionate nature have made him a favorite at the rescue. “He finds joy in every moment,” Basner added. The team hopes to find him a permanent home willing to accommodate his needs—and reward his endless love.
