A frightened kitten, abandoned near a busy curb, has transformed into a playful and affectionate companion after being rescued by a kind-hearted animal advocate.
Last month, Laila D’Souza, founder of the Winston Memorial Foundation, spotted a small, motionless kitten on the side of the road while driving home from work. With cars speeding past, D’Souza pulled over and discovered the tiny feline—later named Scarlet—huddled in fear.
“At just four weeks old, she was completely alone—no mother or siblings in sight,” D’Souza told Love Meow. “She was terrified but clearly relieved to be safe.”
From Fear to Trust
Initially, Scarlet was too traumatized to eat or interact with her foster family. “She hid constantly, startled by every sound,” her foster mom recalled. But with patience, quiet reassurance, and plenty of food, the timid kitten gradually emerged from her shell.
Within days, Scarlet began approaching her caregivers, rubbing against their legs and even chasing the family dog, Bella. “Once she realized she was safe, her playful personality exploded,” her foster mom said.
A Bundle of Energy—and Cuddles
Now, Scarlet spends her days pouncing on feather toys, racing around the house, and perching on shoulders like a tiny supervisor. “She’s hilarious—full of energy but also a total cuddle bug at night,” her foster mom shared.
Though her early days remain a mystery, Scarlet’s future is bright. She’ll soon be paired with another foster kitten for companionship and is expected to find a loving forever home.
