A persistent tabby cat has amused the internet after repeatedly waking up a woman by loudly meowing outside her window—despite not being her pet.
The moment was captured in a viral TikTok video posted in May by user @amicable.finch. In the clip, the cat is seen standing upright outside a bedroom window, meowing loudly as if demanding attention.
“This cat continues [to wake] me up meowing at my window at the top of their lungs,” the caption reads. “Pretty sure you’re on the wrong side of the fence there, buddy.”
The video quickly gained attention, racking up over 861,000 views and more than 201,500 likes on TikTok. In the comments, the poster explained that the vocal feline belonged to her neighbors and had appeared at her window before.
“While I don’t agree with letting pet cats roam outside because of how dangerous it can be, this is my neighbor’s cat,” she wrote. “They are not injured, just very loud and talkative. The expressions they’re showing are curious, not distressed or in pain.”
Meowing is typical behavior for healthy cats. According to Catster, which cites veterinarian Dr. Lorna Whittemore, cats meow to communicate with humans, not with other cats once they reach adulthood. Reasons for vocalizations can include hunger, stress, playfulness, or even medical issues.
Sudden or excessive meowing may be linked to health conditions like hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure, pain, or cognitive decline. To reduce this behavior, veterinarians recommend feeding cats on a regular schedule and providing enrichment through toys and quiet resting spaces.
Online viewers found the cat’s behavior both relatable and hilarious. One commenter joked, “Girl I think that’s a meerkat,” while another wrote, “Let her in right now.” A third user added, “She was like, ‘Do you have a cat I can play with?’”
For now, the curious feline remains a noisy but harmless neighborhood visitor—one that clearly knows how to get attention.
