A Texas family captured a priceless moment when a father learned his daughter had adopted not one but two kittens.
Danielle Flores, who lives in the U.S. with her husband Danny and their daughter Laila, told Newsweek that Laila is “a huge kitten lover.” The family already had two cats and had recently lost a kitten they rescued earlier in the year. Laila was heartbroken when that kitten became suddenly ill and passed away.
When Laila announced she was ready for another pet, Danielle and Danny agreed. They expected to return home with a single kitten. Instead, Laila and her mother rescued two from a local rescue. “A lady posted about needing to find homes for her kittens,” Danielle explained. “My daughter and I decided to take both. My husband knew we were going for one kitten—the surprise was coming back with two.”
Flores shared the reaction in a TikTok video on June 17, which has since gone viral. In the clip, Laila sits in the family car, grinning as she holds a carrier with the kittens inside. Danny approaches and Laila warns, “Daddy, promise not to be mad at me or Mom.” When he peers in, his face lights up—then falls. He jerks upright and exclaims in Spanish, “¡Dos?!” (“Two?!”) Danielle bursts into laughter. Danny asks, “Babe, why?” but his warm smile shows he can’t stay upset.
TikTok users loved Danny’s reaction. “Why is him yelling ‘dos?!’ so absolutely hilarious?” one viewer wrote. Another said they replayed the video “numerous times just to hear him say dos.”
Danielle, who fosters special needs children with her husband and works in the behavioral field for her local school district, confirmed to Newsweek that Danny “absolutely loves the kittens” and they won’t be going anywhere.
Experts note that adopting two kittens at once has benefits. According to a veterinarian-reviewed report from The Spruce Pets, kittens paired together can mentally stimulate and entertain each other, learn good habits like litter-box use and grooming, and avoid becoming picky eaters.
