A two-year-old Maine Coon from Minnesota has officially claimed the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest tail on a living domestic cat.
Named Mr. Pugsley Addams—after The Addams Family character—the silver-furred feline boasts a remarkable 18.5-inch tail, earning him a spot in the record books. His owner, Amanda Cameron, says Pugsley’s unusually long tail was evident even during his first veterinary visit.
“The vet walked in and immediately said, ‘That is a REALLY long tail,’” Cameron recalled in an interview with GWR. “I took a closer look and realized just how long it was.”
Six months later, the veterinarian measured Pugsley’s tail and discovered it surpassed the previous record holder’s length. Cameron’s children, Finley and Josephine, quickly researched whether a Guinness World Records title existed for the category—and Pugsley beat it.
A Growing Tail and a Playful Personality
At just two years old, Pugsley may still be growing, meaning his tail could extend even further. But already, his expressive appendage makes him stand out—especially among his siblings.
The record-holding cat shares his home with three other feline companions: sisters Winnie and Dutchess and brother Gomez, also named after an Addams Family character. While Gomez is described as “violently affectionate,” Pugsley is the mischievous one.
“He’s very creative when it comes to finding new ways to cause trouble,” Cameron told GWR. “But he’s also kind, caring, and loves his momma.”
Beyond his antics, Pugsley can sit on command and enjoys playing fetch—particularly when he’s supposed to be settling down for the night. His tail, often flicking or swaying, only adds to his charm.
A Local Celebrity
Pugsley’s calm demeanor and striking tail have made him a neighborhood favorite. “People always want to meet him and call him a ‘local celebrity,’” Cameron said.
Despite his record-breaking feature, Pugsley remains unfazed by new experiences. “He’s level-headed, even in situations that might scare other cats,” his owner added. “He’s super soft, always purring, and just a great little guy to be around.”
As for whether Pugsley recognizes his tail’s extraordinary length? “He definitely knows,” Cameron joked. “It gets in the way—especially when he’s excited and it’s standing straight up in my face during mealtime.”
