Universal Pictures unveiled the second trailer for its highly anticipated film adaptation of Cats, the iconic Broadway musical, on Tuesday. The latest preview offers fans a deeper look at the A-list cast’s striking transformations into singing felines, including Taylor Swift, Judi Dench, and Rebel Wilson.
New Original Song by Taylor Swift and Andrew Lloyd Webber
Adding to the excitement, Swift recently released “Beautiful Ghosts,” an original song she co-wrote with the musical’s legendary composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber. The haunting ballad reflects themes of longing and nostalgia, serving as a key emotional anchor for the film.
In a behind-the-scenes featurette released by Universal Pictures in October, Swift, 29, shared insights into the creative process. “We’re actually gonna be recording a song that Andrew Lloyd Webber and I wrote together,” she revealed, as footage showed the pair collaborating in the studio.
Webber, 71, explained that the track was crafted for Francesca Hayward’s character, Victoria, whose perspective drives the film’s narrative. “When I first read the screenplay, the first thing I said was, ‘We have to have a song for Victoria. It’s an incredibly important central part of the whole film,’” he noted.
Swift echoed the sentiment, emphasizing their shared goal: “There was an ambition to have an original song in the movie—just very much this understanding of, ‘Let’s write the best song we can.’”
Star-Studded Cast Brings Feline Fantasy to Life
The trailer highlights the ensemble’s dramatic makeovers, with Dench as Old Deuteronomy, Wilson as Jennyanydots, and Swift as Bombalurina. The film, directed by Tom Hooper (Les Misérables), blends cutting-edge visual effects with the musical’s beloved choreography and melodies.
