Staff at the RSPCA’s Macclesfield, SE Cheshire and Buxton Branch are making a heartfelt appeal to find homes for three cats who have spent nearly 700 days combined in their care.
Tigger, Princess, and Toskha have all been repeatedly overlooked, despite each having unique personalities and heartwarming stories. Rehoming coordinator Carmen Cole said the ongoing cost-of-living crisis has played a big role in slowing adoption rates.
“Sadly, we’re seeing more animals needing our help—many of them victims of cruelty or neglect—but fewer people are adopting,” Cole said. “Tigger, Princess, and Toskha truly deserve a second chance at happiness. For those who can take on the responsibility, we ask them to consider adopting rather than buying a pet.”
Tigger: The Energetic Senior
Twelve-year-old Tigger, a black-and-white cat, has been waiting over 330 days for a new home after his elderly owner passed away. Despite his age, staff say he behaves like a cat half his age. He enjoys shoelace play, catnip toys, and curling up in laundry bags.
Tigger needs an adult-only home with experienced cat owners, as he can get grabby when overstimulated.
Princess: The Timid Survivor
Five-year-old Princess, a tortoiseshell, was left behind in a property after her owners were evicted. She has been at the shelter for 180 days. Initially shy, she has now become a friendly cat who enjoys attention and affection. Staff believe she will continue to blossom in a loving home.
Toskha: The Independent Companion
Toskha, a six-year-old, was rescued from a house after her owner died. She has spent 166 days in RSPCA care. After settling into her foster home, she began to relax and show her personality. She enjoys sunbathing by the window and values her independence, though she also seeks out affection at times.
The RSPCA is urging anyone considering a new pet to adopt rather than buy. These three cats, each with their own charm and story, are waiting for someone to give them the second chance they deserve.
