Brisbane, Australia – Two months ago, Best Friends Felines, a volunteer-run rescue organization, received a call about a young mother cat and her two kittens in urgent need of shelter. The feline family had been found during severe weather and taken to a veterinary clinic for care before being transferred to the rescue.
“The emergency center reached out knowing we never leave a family behind,” a representative from Best Friends Felines said.
The trio—Eva, a tabby mother cat, and her two kittens, Cocomelon and Pumpkin—were placed with foster carer Becc, who ensured they had a safe and nurturing environment. Though Eva initially appeared to be recovering well, volunteers soon noticed something unusual.
A Surprise Discovery
Despite still nursing her older kittens, Eva’s belly continued to grow. A veterinary examination confirmed suspicions—she was pregnant again. (Cats can go into heat and conceive even while nursing, sometimes just weeks after giving birth.)
Eva, already a devoted mother, would soon welcome another litter—this time, her last.
“She came to us with her two kittens still clinging to her,” the rescue shared. “She’s a patient, loving mom, and her babies adore her.”
As her due date approached, Eva’s foster family prepared for the birth, setting up nesting boxes in quiet spaces.
A Smooth Delivery—With a Twist
One morning, Eva became unusually affectionate with Becc, signaling that labor was near. Throughout the day, her older kittens, Pumpkin and Cocomelon, stayed close, offering comfort.
By evening, Eva delivered five healthy kittens: a calico, a tuxedo, two tabbies, and a ginger. The rescue believed her family was complete—until the next morning, when they discovered a sixth tabby kitten had arrived overnight.
Now a mother of eight, Eva has embraced her role with grace, diligently nursing and grooming her newborns.
A Happy Ending in Sight
What began as a rescue mission for three cats has now saved nine. Eva’s older kittens will soon be ready for adoption, while her newborns will remain under her care until weaned.
Once her kittens are independent, Eva herself will be spayed and placed in a forever home, where she can finally enjoy a life of relaxation—free from the demands of motherhood.
“Eva is glowing—bright, loving, and so proud of her little ones,” the rescue said. “We’re in awe of her gentle spirit. She’s a beautiful soul and an incredible mother.”
Best Friends Felines continues to care for the expanding feline family, with all kittens expected to be available for adoption in the coming weeks.
