Montreal, QC — When a local resident began rescuing a litter of stray kittens from her balcony, she didn’t expect a tiny newcomer to join them—one whose life was about to change forever.
The resident had already brought one kitten to Chatons Orphelins Montreal, a local cat rescue, and was searching for the remaining two when they returned—with an unexpected companion in tow.
A Surprise Arrival
The newcomer, a tuxedo kitten named Hanya, wasn’t part of the original litter. But hunger had driven her to follow the others to the food source.
“The woman had never seen her before, but Hanya was so hungry that she landed in a humane trap, which saved her life,” the rescue shared.
At just a few months old, Hanya had never known human kindness. Scared and malnourished, she huddled in a corner, her wide eyes betraying her fear. She was underweight, battling an eye infection, and suffering from digestive issues.
Learning to Trust
At first, Hanya shrank from every unfamiliar sight and sound. Loud noises sent her scrambling for safety, and she avoided human contact. But with patience and the calming presence of another gentle foster kitten, she slowly began to relax.
“Hanya took some time to come out of her shell, but she eventually grew to love her new life with the other friendly cats and unlimited food,” the rescue said.
As she gained weight and watched the other kittens play fearlessly, her demeanor softened. Then came a breakthrough—one day, she tentatively climbed into a lap and curled up, purring for the first time.
“Hanya is a sweet, gentle, and affectionate kitten. Once you gain her trust, she turns into a cuddly purr machine who loves spending time with you.”
A Playful, Confident Kitten Emerges
Now thriving, Hanya has embraced her playful side. She wrestles with fellow fosters, explores with curiosity, and indulges in long naps in cozy cat trees.
“She adores other cats and immediately feels at ease with them,” the rescue noted. “She’s as affectionate with her feline friends as she is with her humans.”
One of her closest companions is Mataf, another rescued stray. The two are inseparable—Mataf follows her like a shadow, and they often snuggle together, grooming each other contentedly.
A Bright Future Ahead
From a skittish stray to a loving lap cat, Hanya’s transformation has been remarkable.
“This beautiful bundle of fur has come a long way since her arrival,” the rescue shared. “The other kittens in the house have helped her gain confidence, turning her into an endearing little character.”
No longer hiding in fear, Hanya now seeks out cuddles, hops onto couches for naps, and basks in the security of a loving foster home—proof that even the most timid hearts can learn to trust.
