The Good Mews Animal Foundation in Marietta, Georgia, is renowned for its motto, “Once a good stable cat, always a good stable cat,” and the cat Patriot is a perfect embodiment of this phrase. As the “mascot” of the foundation, Patrior’s story has touched many people.
Patriot was adopted by Good Mews when it was young, but soon after, it was involved in a car accident and sent back for treatment by its owner. Although surgery and medical care saved his life, he was left with permanent health problems, including difficulty urinating and incontinence, making it hard for him to be resettled. Now, eight-year-old Patriot has been living in the shelter for many years and has become a favorite among children and other cats.
As part of the Good Mews “Home At Last (HALO)” program, Patriot received special care. This program is dedicated to taking in cats that are difficult to adopt due to health, age or behavioral problems. Good Mews usually takes in about 100 cats, many of which come from nearby shelters facing euthanasia.
Patriot is still waiting for a home that can take care of his special needs, but during this period, he enjoys the life of a free-roaming shelter and the love of his children. Volunteer Carlie Sorosiak said, “He is the favorite of the shelter and we hope to find a perfect home for him.”
The cage-free environment and community support of Good Mews have enabled cats like Patrior to spend the rest of their lives in peace, and his story continues to inspire more people to pay attention to the well-being of animals with special needs.
