BRONX, NY — A malnourished but affectionate orange tabby cat wandered into a Bronx police precinct parking lot earlier this month, seeking help—and walked straight into a new life.
A Plea for Help
The stray, later named Flamingo, approached Daniel, an employee at the precinct, rubbing against his legs and meowing for attention. Recognizing her desperate condition—emaciated, with ribs visibly protruding—Daniel provided food and water before contacting local rescuers for assistance.
Suzy, an animal rescuer affiliated with Little Wanderers NYC, responded immediately. “She was beyond emaciated, but so friendly,” Suzy told Love Meow. “I knew we had to get her inside before the cold weather hit.”
The “Easiest Rescue Ever”
Upon arrival, Suzy found Flamingo waiting eagerly. The cat devoured canned food, purred loudly, and—without hesitation—stepped into the carrier Suzy had brought. “It was the easiest rescue ever,” Suzy said.
Despite being severely underweight and dirty, Flamingo radiated gratitude, curling into her rescuer for affection. “She started rubbing on us and falling at our feet three minutes after coming out of the carrier,” Suzy recalled. “She’s the sweetest thing on earth.”
A New Beginning
Little Wanderers NYC arranged foster care, medical treatment, and a steady supply of food for Flamingo. Now safe indoors, the once-starving cat spends her days kneading blankets, purring nonstop, and soaking up love.
“After roaming the streets most of her life, she’ll never have to face winter outside again,” Suzy said. Flamingo’s rescue underscores the impact of community efforts—and how one cat’s trust changed her fate.
