Montreal, Canada — A once-stray cat named Remille, who spent her early life struggling outdoors, is now thriving in a loving home alongside her kitten, Hardy—a testament to resilience and the power of compassion.
From Struggle to Safety
A family operating a remote farm near Montreal began noticing an increasing number of abandoned cats on their property over time. Despite their efforts to care for the strays, the situation became overwhelming. “Some cats were sick, others injured from fights,” said Celine Crom of Chatons Orphelins Montréal, a local rescue organization.
When animal rescuer Julie learned of the crisis, she intervened. Among the cats was a long-haired tabby with a cloudy eye and severe matting—later named Remille. Weighing just 1.3 kg and malnourished, she was one of several pregnant cats rescued using humane traps.
A New Beginning
After being transferred to Chatons Orphelins Montréal, Remille received urgent medical care. Veterinarians treated her corneal ulcer and diagnosed her with FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), but her spirit remained unbroken. Once her mats were removed, she transformed—purring constantly and craving affection.
“She nearly doubled her weight in days,” Crom shared. “Her foster mom spoiled her with love, and Remille finally learned to enjoy life.”
A Mother’s Journey
Remille gave birth to four kittens, but only Hardy, the strongest of the litter, survived. Now six weeks old, the tabby boy continues to nurse while learning essential feline skills from his mother.
“Hardy is curious and active, mimicking Remille’s behavior—grooming himself and playing,” Crom explained. At night, he comfort-nurses, while by day, Remille patiently teaches him how to be a cat.
Living the Indoor Dream
Now 10 months old, Remille has embraced her new life with enthusiasm. She chases feather toys, follows Hardy around the house, and showers her humans with affection. “She chirps and coos, snuggling up for cuddles,” Crom said.
For a cat who once fought for survival outdoors, Remille’s story is one of redemption—a second chance at safety, love, and the joy of being a kitten at heart.
