A woman who adopted two kittens from separate litters was told to keep them apart at first—but the pair had other plans.
Breanna, who posts on TikTok as @breannavanloo, shared a clip on May 7 showing her kittens eagerly trying to reach each other through a door. “Help, we adopted two kittens the same age from different litters and were told to keep them separate,” she said in the video. “I think they want to be friends.”
The clip shows a white-and-tabby paw slipping under the door and waving, as a small black kitten eagerly runs up to investigate, trying to sniff and play with the unseen companion on the other side.
In her caption, Breanna wrote: “Please help, they told us to keep them apart for four days minimum. It’s breaking my heart. Can I let them meet?”
Experts recommend slowly introducing new cats or kittens to avoid stress or aggression. According to a vet-reviewed article on PetMD, introductions should begin with scent swapping and observing body language through a barrier. Positive signs include relaxed posture, forward ears, and playful gestures. Signs of stress or aggression, like flattened ears or stiff movements, suggest the process should be slowed down.
Fortunately, both kittens showed playful and relaxed behavior. Kittens also tend to adjust more easily than adult cats, since they are more curious and less territorial.
Breanna’s video quickly gained attention, drawing over 1.3 million views and more than 233,000 likes. Many viewers chimed in with advice. One commenter wrote: “You don’t have to keep them apart if they’re doing well, but a slow introduction is always better just in case.”
Others reminded Breanna that the waiting period can also serve a medical purpose. “It might be less about behavior and more about illness,” one viewer noted. “The four days allow time to see if one is sick and prevent spreading anything.”
In a follow-up comment, Breanna mentioned that both kittens had just been neutered and that one had shown signs of diarrhea, so she planned to monitor their health closely before making a decision.
A few days later, she shared another video—this time showing the kittens finally meeting face-to-face. They played together happily while Breanna watched over them.
“They love each other now,” she commented. “It’s the cutest thing. They’ve been racing around my apartment all morning.”
