In a quiet Norfolk neighborhood, a stealthy food thief has been on the move—but this burglar is not who you might expect. Disco, a 10-year-old half ragdoll cat, has been sneaking around the streets of Hellesdon, near Norwich, stealing food from neighbors.
Disco’s owner, Kat Steele, 42, discovered a stash of stolen cat food pouches while gardening recently. She shared the find on a local Facebook group, quickly turning Disco into a local celebrity.
Despite being fed dry food twice daily at home, Ms. Steele believes Disco has been slipping through a neighbor’s cat flap to grab “wet” food pouches. The crafty cat even manages to tear open the plastic packets to satisfy his appetite.
Ms. Steele explained that the thefts have been happening for some time, as she had previously found a few missing pouches. Living with her partner, their five-year-old daughter, and another cat named Blue, she checked with neighbors but discovered the stolen food was not the brand they usually buy.
Disco has a history of wandering off. “He went missing about five years ago, and we only found him because food was disappearing. The people who found him noticed frozen sausages going missing, and he was even eating bird feed to survive,” Ms. Steele said.
Although no neighbors have come forward about the latest food thefts, Ms. Steele hopes Disco’s unusual food source will soon run out.
“I can’t keep him in at night—he’s definitely a prowler,” she added with a laugh. “He’s growing his winter coat now, but I thought he was looking a bit chunkier lately.”
A skilled hunter who sometimes brings home mice, Disco’s nighttime adventures show that even well-fed cats can’t resist the lure of a midnight snack.
