The RSPCA is appealing to the public for help in identifying the owner of an extremely underweight dachshund left at a Kent cattery by two unidentified men.
The dog, named Truffle, was brought to the RSPCA Ashford Garden Cattery on Station Road in Ashford late in the afternoon of Sunday, February 16. Staff found her in a frail state—she could barely stand, was severely underweight, and had lost a significant amount of fur.
After receiving urgent veterinary care, the seven-year-old dachshund was moved to emergency boarding approved by the RSPCA. She is now recovering well under close supervision.
RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Poppy Turk said, “Poor Truffle was in a very bad way and was struggling to stand when she was left at the cattery. The two men who brought her in refused to provide any information about themselves or the dog.”
Despite her difficult condition upon arrival, Truffle has shown strong signs of improvement. “Thankfully, Truffle is making great progress since coming into our care,” Turk added. “She is doing really well and has put on weight.”
Truffle is microchipped, and the charity is continuing its investigation. The RSPCA is urging anyone who may have information about her background or the individuals who left her to contact their appeals line at 0300 124 8018, referencing incident number 01450567.
