Halle Berry may have once been a self-described “dog person,” but her role in 2004’s Catwoman sparked a lasting love for felines. Now, two decades later, the Oscar-winning actress has fully embraced her inner cat lady—rescuing four kittens found in her yard.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Berry, 57, reflected on how Catwoman transformed her into a devoted cat enthusiast. “I became a cat lover because of it,” she said. “I just rescued four kitties I found in my yard three weeks ago. I’m a Catwoman through and through because of that experience and those relationships. That experience changed me.”
Last month, Berry introduced two of her new rescue kittens, Boots and Coco, in an Instagram post. She explained that she discovered them along with their siblings and mother in her yard. After spaying the mother cat and releasing her back outside, Berry found homes for two of the kittens—keeping Boots and Coco for herself.
“It’s a full house over here!” she wrote. Alongside her new feline companions, Berry is also a proud owner of two Labradoodles.
From Catwoman to Cat Lover
Berry told EW that her preparation for Catwoman involved deep immersion into feline behavior. Early in production, she was given a cat named Playdough to study.
“I watched, studied, and learned how cats think,” she said. “I didn’t have the responsibility of children and family; I was just a woman alone with a lot of idle time to focus on this.”
She even adopted cat-like movements in her daily life, crawling around her home and attempting to jump on counters. “I was in it 24/7,” she admitted.
Though Catwoman was a box-office disappointment, Berry’s connection to cats has endured. The film is now available for purchase online.
