As the senior felines at Edinburgh’s cat cafe bid farewell to their public-facing duties, the establishment is joyously welcoming the “next generation” of kittens.
Maison de Moggy has just announced the arrival of its latest additions: a pair of ragdoll siblings. The last members of the cafe’s first-generation cats have now retired, and the second-generation is “taking form” following the introduction of two Norwegian Forest Cats last month.
Located on West Port, the cafe offers the public the opportunity to interact with its in-house cats while savoring a hot beverage or a slice of cake. Inspired by the Japanese concept of cat cafes, Maison de Moggy has a dedicated team of “cat nannies” who take care of the numerous cats within the establishment.
Eleven of the maison’s previous kitties have now retired. Unfortunately, Elodie, a Sphynx cat, passed away in August 2023. The cafe noted that they were among the first and few cafes in the world to have a Sphynx cat, and Elodie “altered many people’s perception of what a cat is and was adored by countless individuals who had the pleasure of meeting her”.
Since 2023, the cafe has welcomed eight new feline members, with four joining in the past two months. They shared a picture of the newest ragdolls on social media, depicting the two cats cozily nestled in a cardboard box.
A spokesperson for Maison de Moggy stated today, “We have recently retired the last of our first-generation feline family, and now our second-generation is truly coming together. In the last month, we added seven-month-old Norwegian Forest Cat brothers, Nicolas and Florent, as well as six-month-old ragdoll siblings, Didier and Genevieve. All family members are now under two years old, so it’s an incredibly exciting time as we watch our second-generation grow up together and strengthen their bonds. Everyone is extremely playful, and there are many distinct personalities to discover. It was a great privilege to witness the growth of our first-generation…”
