Salinas, CA – A California couple has been reunited with their adventurous cat, Rayne Beau, more than two months after he vanished during a camping trip to Yellowstone National Park. The feline’s improbable 800-mile journey ended at a California animal shelter—thanks to a lifesaving microchip.
A Disappearance in the Wilderness
Benny and Susanne Anguiano of Salinas frequently camp with their cats, so they didn’t hesitate to bring Rayne Beau along on their June trip to Yellowstone. But one night, the skittish cat bolted into the wilderness after being startled. Despite an exhaustive search, the couple reluctantly returned home without him.
As they left the park, however, Susanne spotted an unexpected sign of hope: a pair of rainbows—fitting for a cat named Rayne Beau. “It just knit it all together for me,” she recalled.
An 800-Mile Odyssey
Two months later, the Anguianos received shocking news: Rayne Beau had been found at a shelter in Roseville, California—nearly 900 miles from Yellowstone. According to Benny, the resilient cat even survived a close encounter with a coyote during his trek.
The Power of Microchipping
The shelter identified Rayne Beau through his microchip, allowing staff to quickly contact his relieved owners. “We would have never gotten him back without it,” Susanne emphasized.
Studies show microchipped cats are 20 times more likely to be returned home if lost. The quick, noninvasive procedure is affordable and requires owners to keep contact details updated—a small step that can make all the difference.
