Mandy Moore is fully embracing the festive spirit this holiday season. The This Is Us actress, 39, told PEOPLE she’s excited to establish new traditions with her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, and their two young sons: Augustus “Gus,” 2, and Oscar “Ozzie,” 14 months.
“We’re putting down roots and figuring out what new traditions will define our holidays. What will we do every year that feels special?” Moore said.
But the celebrations won’t just include humans—Moore’s three cats, Fig, Olivia, and Peanut, will also play a starring role.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had a moment in my life without cats,” said Moore, who plans to stuff stockings for her feline family members. “Everyone gets their own stocking so they feel included. They love crinkled wrapping paper and boxes—Christmas morning will be a hit.”
Cats: The Unlikely Holiday Helpers
While toddlers Gus and Ozzie are drawn to the Christmas tree ornaments, Moore joked that her cats are surprisingly well-behaved. “The cats somehow leave the tree alone—it’s the kids who want to dismantle it!” she said.
Moore credits cats with shaping her life long before parenthood. “They were my first pets, my first lesson in responsibility,” she shared. “Cats changed my life.”
Giving Back with Purina Cat Chow
To honor the bond between cats and their owners, Moore partnered with Purina Cat Chow for its 60 Years, 60 Stories: Celebrating the Extraordinary Impact of Cats—a book featuring heartfelt submissions from cat lovers. Moore wrote the foreword and highlighted the campaign’s charitable mission.
“All proceeds go to Pet Partners, a nonprofit that trains therapy animals and handlers to comfort those in need,” she said. Purina will donate all book sales through December 31, plus an additional $60,000 to the organization.
“It was a no-brainer to join this effort,” Moore added. “Cats bring so much joy—this celebrates that.”
