Retired NFL star Jason Kelce, 36, has been using a creative—if not entirely honest—tactic to avoid getting a family cat: convincing his three young daughters that felines are “poisonous.” But now, fans are eagerly anticipating the moment his girls discover the truth—especially when they meet Taylor Swift’s beloved cats.
Kelce revealed the humorous parenting strategy on the New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. “I just keep telling our girls that cats are poisonous,” Jason admitted, explaining his ploy to deter his daughters—Wyatt, 4, Elliotte, 2, and Bennett, 17 months—from begging for a pet cat.
Travis, 34, was quick to call out the absurdity of the lie. “Why the f— would you tell them that?” he asked, laughing. Jason doubled down, joking, “They’ll find out—I think lying to your kids is important.”
Fans on X (formerly Twitter) were quick to imagine the inevitable reckoning when Jason’s daughters meet Swift’s three famous cats—Meredith, Benjamin, and Olivia. Swift, who has been dating Travis since last summer, is known for her love of felines, often featuring them in social media posts and even music videos.
“Jason Kelce has been telling his kids cats are poisonous so they don’t have to get one?? LMAO Get Tree Paine on the phone,” one fan tweeted, referencing Swift’s longtime publicist. Another joked, “And what is Jason’s plan when they meet Auntie TayTay’s cats?”
Jason seemed unfazed by the impending exposure, quipping, “It’s gonna be hilarious.”
Travis, however, predicted chaos. “They’re gonna go over a friend’s house and f—ing scream bloody murder because they see a cat,” he said.
Jason’s response? “That’s fine. That sounds like that person’s house problem.”
For now, the Kelce girls remain blissfully unaware—but the internet is already preparing for the day Swift’s cats reveal the truth.
