A cat recovering from surgery has found a unique way to pass the time—by binge-watching an animated movie.
Marquita, the cat’s owner from Cincinnati, Ohio, shared a video on TikTok showing her orange cat, Jack, wearing a post-surgery suit after his second hernia operation. In the clip, Jack is resting comfortably while watching The Secret Life of Pets. The video has attracted over half a million views.
Hernias in cats are uncommon but can happen due to injury or birth defects. They occur when muscles are damaged, allowing internal organs or tissues to push through. Marquita told a TikTok user she believes Jack’s hernia returned because he was too active during recovery instead of resting.
Newsweek reached out to Marquita for comment but could not independently verify the details.
The TikTok caption says Jack has probably watched the movie about 10 times and does not seem to get bored. He lies wrapped in a blanket on his bed, earning more than 126,000 likes.
Jack’s life was not always easy. Marquita revealed in another video that Jack and his brother, X, were found abandoned in a parking lot, starving and freezing. Since then, the brothers have become inseparable and have won the hearts of many online viewers.
Comments on the video show fans’ affection for Jack. One wrote, “Aww, sick day in his jammies on the couch with a movie,” which received over 20,000 likes. Another user joked, “I wish my cat did this. He doesn’t even understand the concept of a screen.” Marquita replied, “Jack’s an iPad kid.”
Some viewers wondered if cats can actually see TV. According to Hill’s Pet Food Company, cats “sort of” can. Their vision works when light hits the retina, activating two types of cells called cones and rods. These cells send electrical signals to the brain, allowing cats to see images on screens.
Jack’s story shows that even cats can find comfort in unexpected ways during recovery.
