MILWAUKEE, WI — A six-month-old kitten, found covered in oil and severely underweight, has captured hearts worldwide after his remarkable recovery and rise to TikTok fame.
Stoot, short for Stuart Little, was brought into the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) as a stray, weighing less than two pounds. Covered in an oily substance and too frightened to eat, his future was uncertain—until Emilie Rackovan, director of Thrifted Kittens Animal Rescue, stepped in.
A Rough Start
Rackovan, who spoke exclusively with PEOPLE, recounted Stoot’s harrowing condition upon arrival. “He was in rough shape,” she said. “We don’t know his background, but we suspect he may have come from a crowded household.”
After a quarantine period to rule out illness, Stoot was placed with a foster caregiver before transitioning to Rackovan’s care for veterinary treatment. Tests revealed a minor heart condition, but vets assured it wouldn’t significantly impact his life.
A Remarkable Transformation
Despite his initial fear, Stoot’s resilient spirit quickly shone through. “Within hours, he was purring and taking treats,” Rackovan shared. “He felt awful but remained a happy little guy.”
With weeks of care, the oil residue disappeared, and Stoot began to thrive. He bonded with Rackovan’s cat, Blue Moon, and his playful personality emerged. “Once he trusted people and finished his medications, he completely blossomed,” she added.
Internet Stardom
Rackovan documented Stoot’s journey on TikTok, where his videos went viral—one of him meowing garnered 11.6 million views. His story resonated with animal lovers, drawing widespread attention to rescue pets in need.
A Happy Ending
After six weeks in foster care, Stoot found his forever home with a couple who had adopted a cat around Blue Moon’s age. “They adore him,” Rackovan said, sharing their update: “We love Stoot. He is the sweetest boy!”
While Stoot’s tale has a joyful conclusion, Rackovan emphasized that many cats like him still await adoption. “Shelters are full of animals who just need love and a chance,” she urged.
